Masters in Engineering and Management

Overview

Taiz University has become one of the first few Arab Universities to offer to its local and regional academic institutions and industry The Master of Engineering and Management Degree program (ME&M) at its newly established Center for Graduate Studies in Engineering and Information Technology (CGS).  The ME&M program is designed to meet the needs of industry by offering engineers the critical skills needed to be successful in an engineering career.  Engineering and Business Management do not happen independently in industry. For the first time, they are fully integrated into a 36 credit units program that only takes approximately 18 months to complete.

The ME&M basically aims to provide the country and the region with highly – professional, honest and quality conscious graduates. It also provides a carver path where engineers can process as managers and retain their basic identities as engineers.

What is a Master of Engineering and Management (ME&M) Degree?

The engineering and management degree (ME&M) offered by CGS of TU & TUDelft combine professional engineering practice with core business and management subjects.  This comprehensive graduate degree provides a core curriculum in Product Design, Production System, Engineering, Materials Process, Marketing Management, Management and Cost Accounting, Strategic Management, and other courses in the foundation stage and elective courses from both disciplines.

The ME&M degree program is designed to prepare engineers in better management of company resources towards successful completion of engineering tasks and projects.  Management principles are of relevant interest for all engineers as management responsibility is an inevitable component of most engineering careers. The knowledge and skills of integrating engineering and management techniques in designing, operating, evaluating, implementing and managing continuous improvements of systems are highly valued in today’s industrial environment.

Both ends of the curriculum spectrum for the ME&M program, engineering in one hand and management on the other, represent a blend of engineering skills and business knowledge needed to develop innovative solutions to industry complex problems.  Plus, new or experienced engineering professionals are prepared for technical leadership roles and develop the skills to manage emerging technologies and the ability to assess economic needs.

Why Study This Degree?

The Master of Engineering and Management is structured to enable engineering practitioner’s to undertake positions of greater managerial responsibility, to advance their careers and to develop core competencies in engineering management. The ME&M focuses on the need for students to acquire and demonstrate a command of creative, analytical and conceptual skills. It challenges the student to analyze, diagnose and execute strategic judgment across all engineering functions.

TU and TUDelft Engineering and Management Master Program prepares participants to successfully integrate engineering and management knowledge while optimizing the use of people, money, equipment and information. ME&M is a strategically designed program that will provide graduates the opportunity to improve their management skills and their understanding of business practices which is critical in today’s highly competitive environment. ME&M graduates will become empowered to work in teams and understand managers from other disciplines including finance, human resources and marketing.

Likewise, the program aims at lifelong learning, global competitiveness and development of skills in engineering and management.

Who should study this degree?

The ME&M qualification aims to meet the rising demand locally and in the countries of the region for qualified engineering managers such as senior engineers, plant managers, engineering supervisors, system engineers, project managers, lead field engineers, process engineers and many other supportive roles. The need for engineering talent is reflected in the rapidly growing regional economies in both public and private sectors which are playing a major role in developing the engineering industries.

Student Body Profile

The ME&M participants are experienced, successful scientists, engineers and technical professionals from diverse corporate backgrounds.  They bring a wealth of practical knowledge, insight and expertise to the classroom that could exceed 200 years of total class work experiences which enriching the learning experience for everyone.

Teaching Methodology

The Engineering and Management courses of the ME&M program are taught by highly qualified international faculty members. English language is the language of teaching.  The combination of small classes and a high faculty-to-student ratio fosters class spirit and creates a stimulating intellectual environment.  Teaching methodology in our classes is basically based on student – student and teacher – student interactive teaching approach.

ME&M Benefits

The Engineering and Management Master’s Degree Program will give students:

  1. The knowledge to describe a complex or advanced technological process and product in a managerial context.
  2. The understanding to diagnose the functionality and performance of such processes and products in a multi-disciplinary way.
  3. The skills to (re)design such processes and products.
  4. The knowledge, understanding and skills for applying industrial engineering methodologies in research.
  5. The knowledge, understanding and skills for long life learning, including information retrieval and ICT-use.
  6. The skills to communicate scientifically about a chosen solution approach with engineers and managers.
  7. The knowledge and understanding of advanced technology, managerial sciences and mathematics to enter a PhD-program in  Engineering & Management or a related discipline.
  8. Professional skills for managerial, societal and ethical behavior when applying technology.

Research/Project

Under the ME&M, students may undertake an option known as the Academic Research Path which will provide training in research related skills. Completion of this option allows students to progress into a research degree. Selected students can also undertake industry-based projects at employers’ premises, gaining first-hand experience in current industry research and development practices.
