Strategic Start
In April 2008, with the assistance from the Dutch government under the auspices of the Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education (NUFFIC) a partnership between Taiz University (TU) and Delft University of Technology (T U Delft) to establish the Center for Graduate Studies to develop two advanced master’s degree programmes in Engineering and Information Technology (CGS) at the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, Taiz University.
To supplement the academic partnership between Taiz University and the Delft University of Technology, Yemeni public and private corporations were invited to contribute to the development of the programme offerings as technical contributors and partners.
In response to the call, two industry leaders came forward to contribute to the effort to develop the Centre’s partnership with industry. The well known Hayel Saeed Anam Group of Companies representing the private sector and the Public Telecommunication Company representing the public sector participated in the planning of the center and its premier programmes. Their contribution provided a wealth of information on the needs of the university’s publics thereby ensuring that the Center’s programmes were in line with the needs of the market.
Center for Graduate Studies (CGS)
Through the partnership of TU and TUDelft, The Center for Graduate Studies in Engineering and Information Technology was established at the Faculty of Engineering, Taiz University in June, 2009. The Center’s first programs are Master-degree Programs in (1) “Engineering and Management” (ME&M), and (2) “Information Technology and Management” (MIT&M).
After determination of the defined needs of industry in the country, and on the advice of the CGS’ technical partners, the Ministry of Higher Education, and other stakeholders, the partnership saw the need to develop programmes which at once offered practicing engineers and specialists cutting-edge technical programming and integrated modern management methods and industry practices within a consolidate executive degree program.
